Written on My Heart — Nehemiah 8:10

“The joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Some verses don’t just speak — they settle.
They pause us, steady us, and remind us of truth when our heart feels tired or our spirit feels stretched thin. This week, Nehemiah 8:10 found its way into my day like an anchor I didn’t know I needed.

The joy of the Lord is your strength.
Not circumstances.
Not ability.
Not results.
Not the approval of others.
His joy.

Nehemiah was a man called to rebuild something broken—stone by stone, under pressure, surrounded by resistance, facing doubt, exhaustion, fear, and distraction. Yet he continued. He kept building. He stayed focused on what God placed before him, even when it was difficult, slow, and opposed.

His story reminds me that joy is not the same as ease. Strength is not the same as comfort. And purpose is often built one faithful step at a time.

When the work feels heavy

We all encounter seasons where the thing God called us to do — rebuilding, healing, growing, holding on — feels bigger than what we have to give.

Maybe you’re in one now.

Maybe you’re praying for strength to get through the day.
Maybe you’re rebuilding after loss, sickness, setback, or disappointment.
Maybe you’re fighting discouragement, loneliness, or uncertainty.
Maybe you’re surrounded by noise, but trying to keep your eyes fixed on what matters.

If so, you’re not alone.

And Nehemiah reminds us of something important:

We don’t push through by our own strength —
we are strengthened by His presence.

Strength found in joy

Joy is more than happiness.
Joy is a steady confidence in who God is — even when life shifts, stretches, or shakes us.

Joy says:

God is still good.
God is still working.
God is still with me.

And when we remember that, joy becomes strength.

Not because the road is easy, but because we know we don’t walk it alone.

May we be like Nehemiah

Undeterred from purpose.
Unyielding in integrity.
Unceasing in prayer.
And continuously strengthened by the joy of the Lord.

Brick by brick.
Step by step.
Heart rooted in Him.

If you’re reading this today and you need encouragement, may this settle into your spirit:

You do not have to be strong on your own.
The joy of the Lord is your strength — and He will not fail you.
